From Tree to Sea: Sustainable wooden surfboards
Let us introduce a cool, innovative and environmentally friendly surfboard company in Maine, USA, called Grain Surfboards.
Setup in the basement of his home by Mike LaVecchia (brother of surf photographer Nick LaVecchia), the company "has grown into a full-fledged board and kit manufacturer, known for innovative and timeless designs that ride like nothing else". They pride themselves on producing surfboards made principally of wood, in part to provide surfers an alternative that is "greener" than foam. Grain reduce the impact of surfboard production by using locally produced, sustainable wood products and creatively reducing or reusing any waste left over.
